New Feature: Horse Tracks

I'm super excited to premier a new column on the site: Horse Tracks! In each installment, I will pose a musical taste-related question to the group and post their answers. There are only two rules: 1. Answer within the confines of the question and 2. Be honest!

I'm always interested in what my favorite and fellow artists listen to and so I thought I'd give you a behind the scenes peek at what's inside BHM's earholes. Indeed, I'm often really surprised to find that the music you like does not always equal the music you make.

This week's question: "What was the last full album you listened to?"

Megan - Fleetwood Mac, Fleetwood Mac (1975) Galen - Zox, The Wait Desiree - Bon Iver, Bon Iver David - Johnny Flynn, Country Mile

Hey! This could be a fun way to get to know each other!

What was the last full album YOU listened to?

Tell us on Facebook or Tweet us @blackhorsemotel #horsetracks with your answers to Horse Tracks questions or send us your own questions!

Next Horse Tracks will be a 2013 roundup!

Miles For Days

We are very happy to be previewing another song to tide everyone over before the album release show on March 1st. Miles For Days is sort of a love song written to an ugly and drastic life transition (also during Black Horse Motel's drastic line-up change). I wrote it on the banjo while in North Carolina a year and a half ago, and a couple of months later we started building it to what it is now. This song is the perfect example of why this album was and is so important to us. It has been part of our set since Josh was in the "try out" phases of joining the band, and until now the only way to hear it was to come see us play it live (worth it!). We have been working so hard to make this music permanent and it is so great to be able to post a song like this up on the interwebs!

SO! Without further pointless rambling, I give you "Miles For Days". I hope you all enjoy!

and the album shall be named...

BHM's first EP, Kickstarter Rewards and more!

Hey everyone!  We bring exciting news to all our fans, especially those who donated to our Kickstarter project which will fund our full length album later this year. The EP we recorded with Edan Cohen is being mastered as I write so expect that very soon.  We hope to have it pressed in time for our August 10 show at Milkboy in Ardmore, PA (fingers crossed!).  And for those of you who donated at the appropriate reward level, you'll be getting a download version for free!

Next up, on the same front, we are working on some new merch designs (especially the t-shirt).  If anyone has any great ideas for t-shirts, buttons, stickers, etc. we'd love to hear them.  Otherwise Meg is pretty awesome with this sort of thing pressure!

Other than that, make sure you make it out to our Ardmore show (get your tickets here!).  We're playing with a good friend of ours and amazing musician from Brooklyn, Christopher Paul Stelling.  It'll be our last one for a bit as we gear up to enter the studio to start recording our full length at Forge with Ron DiSilvestro.

Thanks to everyone who's made it out to our shows this summer.  We've gotten a chance to play with and get to know some great folks!

'Til next time...

kickstarter kick-off

We are super excited to announce that we have recently launched a Kickstarter project to raise funds to record our first album!

What is Kickstarter? Kickstarter is the world's largest website dedicated to helping artists of all types collect online donations to fundcreative projects! To find out more about Kickstarter, click here.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 by May 10th in order to record our first full length album this summer. Recording an entire album in a real studio is something we have longed to do for quite some time, but have been unable to due to cost. It would mean the world to us if you could help us reach our goal!

Please take a minute to check out the Black Horse Motel Kickstarter page and donate anything you can. In addition to the rewarding fuzzy feeling you get from helping struggling artists, we also have some sweet rewards to give away based on how much you donate!

If you can't contribute, we understand. But, could we ask you to help spread the word by sending this around to your email and Facebook contacts?

We can't thank you enough for considering contributing to help us record our first album.

And HUGE thank you goes out to everyone who has already donated: Katherine Glick, Thomas Barrett, Jessica, David Hession, William Richardson, Kristine Pasto, mapo22, Elizabeth Weihmann, Jim Thomas, Katie, Catherine Collis, Louis DiDomenico, Carl Fuglein, Chad Shaft, David Mozzone, Horacio, Caitlin, Bill Moriarty, Carol Paist, Natasza Kamichoff, Emily Burke, Rick Katz, Jessica Newman, Madeline Luebbert, seabelly, Joseph Belger, and Adam Kistler!

We are more than a tenth of the way there after only 3 days!

Last but not least, we are playing a show this Friday! Black Horse Motel with James Suit Friday, March 16 Milkboy Coffee 2 East Lancaster Avenue, Ardmore, PA 19003 8pm, All Ages, BYOB

Tickets are $8 in advance (purchase here) and $10 at the door. Milkboy is ALL AGES and BYOB if you are over 21 with a $5 wristband.

Thank you again!
